I started my apprenticeship at Sargoods Motor Works, Peasmarsh in 1962 working on various types of cars, with day release at Guildford Technical College and was taught the correct way to overhaul and repair components. My apprenticeship was transferred to HA Jacksons, Godalming (now Stag Hill). In 1965 I gained my City & Guilds certificate, followed by my National craftsman's certificates in 1967. Jacksons ceased trading in 1984 and with a few members of staff, Mill Lane Engineering was formed, restoring classic cars but specialising mainly in Jaguar's.
I was offered a job at Romans, Farnham (Rolls Royce main dealers) where I attended several factory courses. After 3 years the company ceased trading and I was made redundant. I was contacted by Mill Lane and offered the job of workshop Foreman, which I accepted.
In 1998 whilst talking with (the late) Mr. Terry Cohn, a well known local classic car collector, it was suggested that "if a certain person was to start a business on his own, he would never be short of work".
So, in June, with the help of work from Terry's vast collection, I started my own business. Over the years I have built a customer database through word of mouth and recommendations.
You are more then welcome to "pop in" and see the work in progress on your car, (advisable to ring first if coming some distance as I could be out testing or collecting parts, etc).
